Automotive Storage Challenges
The manufacturer required a live storage system for handling critical engine components, such as cylinder heads and crankshafts. The system needed to accommodate specific automotive stillages and plastic pallets (1200x1000mm, up to 1100kg) smoothly and reliably. A critical design requirement was making sure pallet movement had minimal line pressure, which made sure components were easily accessible.
Euroroll’s Custom Solution
Euroroll designed and installed a storage system with several features:
- Enhanced Pallet Handling: The side profile was redesigned to include an integrated lateral guide, so the stillages moved smoothly from the loading to the picking point.
- Double Separator Technology: A double separator with an extra-high retaining stop isolates the first pallet from the pressure of following pallets, making picking safer and more efficient.
- Reinforced Rollers: Special L-profile rollers were added to the system to make it more durable and reliable for handling heavy loads.
- Optimized Design Parameters: The system accommodates lanes up to 12 meters in length, with a 4% inclination for the best pallet flow.
The Results
The new pallet flow system proved efficient and reliable:
- Increased storage capacity with 9,350 pallet positions, including 8,500 positions dedicated to gravity rollers.
- Faster and smoother picking operations, thanks to the customized side profiles and double separator.
- Enhanced adherence to FIFO principles, reducing errors in component handling.
